Heavy school bags have always been a problem, even when we were younger. However, not much has been done to solve this problem.
The principal of SK Seri Permai, Bayan Baru, Penang, Mohammad Sabarullah Shaik Ismail, was in a Persatuan Ibu Bapa & Guru (PIBG) meeting discussing the issue of heavy school bags when he had an idea for an innovative desk, according to Utusan Malaysia.
He took his idea to Institut Kemahiran MARA Sungai Petani, where he worked with a team and produced a desk that doubles up as a locker where students can keep things in it with ease. Named the ????? ??? ???? ?????, it is also known for its short form ???? ?.?.
The SnET 2.0 has lockable storage spaces for students to keep their books, bags, and stationery. Currently, there are 214 units of the innovative table that the Standard 6 students are test-running.
“The SnET boosts the confidence and makes it fun for students to come to school. Before this desk (was made), a student’s bag weighed 7-10kg, but now, it’s only 2.5kg.”
The creation of this desk was also a collaborative educational project for 30+ students enrolled in the Diploma of Furniture Manufacturing programme at Institut Kemahiran MARA Sungai Petani, according to the school’s Facebook page.
This passion project was completed in a relatively short time, with all wood cut within a week.
It is good to see the collaboration of so many minds and hands, for the benefit of our young students! We hope this test run will go smoothly and that the design and function of the desk will be improved to help lessen the burden of heavy backpacks.
