Take note, guys!

The Polis Diraja Malaysia (PDRM, Royal Malaysia Police) just recently put up a warning claiming that making the “peace sign” in a picture can be dangerous because that alone is enough to trace our fingerprints.

The Facebook post wrote that experts from the National Institute of Informatics (NII) in Japan revealed that one’s fingerprint can be forged through a picture which is captured three metres away from the camera.

What’s make it even scarier is that the hackers don’t need any fancy technology to get your fingerprint as they only need a high-resolution photo.

Once they have gotten their hands on a high-resolution picture, they can access your private information via the smartphone or tablet. Therefore, PDRM has urged us to be very careful and avoid getting our information stolen.

But, did you know that this isn’t actually new information?

Alphr wrote that in 2014, a hacker (Jan “Starbug” Krissler) was able to copy the fingerprint of the German defence minister by using a high-definition picture of him. Walaowei, that’s some scary sh*t.

On that note, always remember to avoid displaying your fingers (in the form of a peace sign) in clear sight when taking a picture. This will ensure that your private information will be secured and it will not be misused.
