Kedah MB, Mohamad Sanusi Md Nor was arrested this morning at 3 am at a residence in KL.

In a Facebook post handled by Sanusi’s admin, it was revealed that he returned to his hotel around 11:40 pm from a meeting with Perikatan Nasional (PN)’s members. At 2 in the morning, there were 2 men wandering around the emergency exit on the 34th floor of the residence in Mont Kiara, KL.

30 minutes later, around 20 police officers were standing in front of Sanusi’s door. At 3 am, Sanusi was brought down to the lobby before he was asked to board an MPV where he was brought to the Gombak police station. He was arrested under Section 4(1)(A) of the Sedition Act for allegedly insulting Sultan Selangor.

This morning at 9 am (18 July), Sanusi, who was escorted by more than a dozen of police entered the Selayang Sessions Court, where was charged with sedition for insulting the Sultan of Selangor with his recent controversial remarks. He’s also faced with another charge of Sedition Act, however, he was released on bail after pleaded not guilty to both charges, with RM5,000 of bail per charges.

Sessions Court has set the matter for a hearing on October 4.

Sanusi disputed Sultan Selangor’s authority to choose the Menteri Besar, and the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah considered the statement by Sanusi as insulting the royal institution.

In a Facebook post last night by the Selangor Royal Office, Sultan Selangor expressed his appreciation to the members of the Selangor King’s Council who acted by filing a police report against Sanusi’s insulting remark.

“His Majesty is also pleased by the support shown by everyone related.”

Now that Sanusi has pleaded not guilty to both charges, we shall see how the matter continues in October.
