The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) has confirmed that the deaths of 2 students from Tunku Abdul Rahman University of Management and Technology (TAR UMT) are isolated incidents, as both victims, who jumped from a Setapak condominium, did not know each other.

In a press conference yesterday (August 28), Kuala Lumpur Police Chief, Datuk Fadil Marsus, discussed the cases, which involved a 22-year-old female student and a 21-year-old male student falling to their deaths from the same condo on the same day, just 14 hours apart.

Despite the similarities, including their alma mater, Datuk Fadil confirmed that they are not related to each other.

The police are investigating whether elements of bullying were present in both cases

Investigations are still being conducted under Section 507B of the Penal Code and the Sudden Death Investigation (SDR). Datuk Fadil added that the police are still looking to prove if elements of bullying existed in both cases. He added that so far, the police are satisfied with the progress of the cases.

“We will record the statements of several more individuals to complete the investigation.”

Earlier, both students jumped off their units at the condominium on August 20. The 22-year-old student left behind a suicide note, and the family has lodged a police report about the matter, claiming that the victim was bullied emotionally and mentally.

The 21-year-old male student called his family members before his death to tell them, “I love you.” However, he did not reveal his reason behind the decision.
