Almost 4,000 Covid-19 patients were expected at the Covid-19 Assessment Centre (CAC) in Stadium Malawati, Shah Alam today (12 July), according to news reporter, Norfazilah Mohd Sahir, who was at the scene.

She said the massive crowd includes patients who arrived for assessments and those who needed to get their quarantine bracelets cut off.

“The CAC at Stadium Malawati has been open since February and receives nearly 2,000 patients daily. But recently, the high increase in Covid-19 cases in Selangor has foreshadowed what is happening today,” she said.

One video shows health workers pushing a patient on a bed into the stadium, who is believed to have fainted at the location.

Norfazilah added that the long lines of people included the elderly, children and even babies who had to wait in line for long periods of time due to the increase in patients at the CAC.

She shared that Stadium Malawati is the largest CAC in Selangor as it receives patients from within and outside of the Petaling Jaya district.

She also added that there are several factors that caused the increase in patients at the CAC today, namely because the CAC was closed yesterday (11 July) and because of large-scale screening conducted by the Selangor government in EMCO areas in the state.

Today (12 July), 8,574 new Covid-19 cases were recorded nationwide, a significant drop after three consecutive days of cases hitting over 9,000. However, Selangor still records a high number of cases with 4,308 new infections.
