There is an ongoing problem with attendance in the parliament and this has affected several parliamentary sessions where they need to vote.

One of the parliamentary members has actually said that they are involved in many programs in one day and in addition to that, they need to attend parliamentary sessions as well, so this contributes to the attendance problem in Dewan Rakyat. He gives an example:

“For example, during the budget, we were only allowed to go home at 10.30pm and we reach home at 12am. After showering, we are only able to sleep at 1am.

So to combat this problem, Datuk Liew Vui Keong, a minister in the Prime Minister’s Office, said that each parliament member will be given a special room (or they could share) to let them rest when the new building is completed in March next year. Datuk Liew said that this will ensure that parliament members will get enough rest.

The rooms will be equipped with Internet and there will also be a room for the head of the opposition.
