The way you communicate with potential employers during a job hunt matters A LOT. You don’t want to leave a bad impression that may hurt your chances of landing a good job.
A Malaysian employer, Manson Khoo, recently shared a baffling experience between him and a candidate who withdrew from his confirmed position at the 11th hour.
“He quit just 1 day before he was supposed to start, and said he suddenly didn’t want it anymore because he got a better offer.”
In his Xiao Hong Shu (RED) post, Manson said he understood that people are mostly after a stable job and pay, but many tend to ignore the most important part – attitude.
“During my time back then and their time today, what a difference!”
Manson highlighted that back then, the chat was all about experience and performance before he jumped into the monthly wage.
He acknowledged that times, however, have changed, as well as the situations.
“I see different characters when I interview candidates nowadays. Some texted me without introduction and resume, and jumped straight into the monthly salary. Some even left me on read,” Manson explained.
He also shared his take on the job-hunting situation today, saying,
“Some people care solely about the benefits and not the career growth or self-improvement.”
In a brief conversation with WORLD OF BUZZ, Manson said that after the candidate bailed on him at the last minute, Manson chose not to prolong the matter and sent him a short response.
“I simply thanked him for informing me.”
Manson also told WORLD OF BUZZ that this was, by far, the most outrageous experience he has ever gone through with a job candidate.
“Another candidate texted me out of the blue and told me he wanted RM6,000. No experience, and no manners. I don’t mind paying but I want the candidate to be valuable.”
To our friends in the HR or recruiting field, what’s your most baffling experience when dealing with a candidate?
