Just recently, three unruly Malaysian teens went super viral on Facebook after they were exposed for their uncivilised behaviour when they stayed at a hostel in Osaka, Japan. There was an altercation that took place between the three boys and a staff of the hostel that was caught on CCTV and shared on social media.

It was also discovered that one of them allegedly left a “goodbye” note in the shower by defecating in the drainage hole. This caused an uproar among many Malaysians who condemned and slammed the teenage boys for their behaviour and for spoiling the image of Malaysians in Japan. Especially after the lodge took them in for free in their apparent time of need.

After the incident, the homestay, Vitti Lodge & Family Apartment had decided to ban all Malaysian guests from staying at their lodging in a Facebook post which since been taken down.

FMT reported that it read, “To all Malaysian who are visiting Japan! Shower rooms are only used for taking showers and washing your body, you can’t poop in it (don’t shit in the shower rooms). Be polite and give a good picture about Malaysian and your people. This is the 3rd time this has happened in our guest house by Malaysian guests.”

The homestay also said that they had already blacklisted Korean and mainland Chinese guests from staying there and would add Malaysians into the list. Facebook users were quick to apologise for the three teens’ behaviour and those who had been there posted glowing reviews of their services.

However, Malaysians would be happy to know that currently, the operator of the homestay has announced that the ban has been lifted following heartfelt apologies from fellow Malaysians as well as the 3 teens.

Apparently the boys had made their own apologies on social media in regards to the incident and Vitti Lodge has announced this on their Facebook page as well.

They even shared one of the apology videos on their Facebook page and kindly asked everyone to stop bashing the boys. The three boys have agreed to bear full responsibility for the damaged wall and pay for the damages caused.

Mohammad Soffi Roslan, one of the partners in Vitti Lodge told FMT, “I spoke to my partner about this issue and as Muslims we know we should not hold on to grudges against others.”

Although Vitti Lodge has kindly lifted the ban, they said that they are considering imposing additional charges on unruly guests who cause damages to their property next time. Soffi said that they took into consideration that many travellers from Malaysia had already booked their rooms and they did not want to cause any inconvenience to them. So kind of them!

“Room reservations are full until February 2018, and it would be a pity for those who had earlier reserved for their trips,” he said.

As a parting note, he advised Malaysians to be more civic-minded and considerate when travelling overseas. “I do not wish to see people going abroad and displaying uncivilised behaviour because it may reflect badly on the person and the country,” he added.

Thank you, Vitti Lodge & Family Apartment! As Malaysians, we will make sure that we project the best image of our beloved country when we are on foreign soil!
