“I take you to be wife from this day onwards, for better, for worse, in health and sickness till death parts us.”

Wedding vows are possibly one of the purest words one can say but unfortunately, not everyone is bound to keep the promises. A woman in Terengganu recently saw through her husband’s true colours, at the cost of the marriage.

She was divorced after removing her breasts due to stage 4 cancer. She was required to remove her breasts to prevent the disease from spreading further in her body.

She survived the cancer, but not the marriage.

Her husband was never on board with the decision to remove her breasts. He initially wanted to bring her to traditional medicine practitioners, which the wife declined and insisted on removing her breasts to survive.

“He told me that a breast cancer patient like me only has a year left to survive.”

That was told to her 7 years ago.

The matter was brought up again recently when the woman was at the Family Support Division of the Terengganu Syariah Justice Department, according to a report by Harian Metro.

She also described her post-divorce life as “an escape from living Hell” but due to sharing her life with an unappreciative man in the past, she has been clinically diagnosed with depression and other illnesses.

“It broke my heart that when I was battling cancer, my ex-husband did not support me. He pressured me a lot.”

She is currently living with one of her daughters and admitted that despite her ex-husband’s absence, she feels at ease and happier.

An illness or a hardship does not kill a connection, but a wrong person does.
