A nurse was allegedly sexually harassed by an elderly man, who is a Covid-19 patient receiving treatment at the Melaka Hospital last Saturday (10 October).

The 29-year-old woman is believed to have been harassed by the 60-year-old man while managing him in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) ward at 5.45pm.

According to Harian Metro, the senior citizen allegedly uttered obscene words while the nurse was treating him, after which the nurse lodged a report at the Melaka Tengah Police Station.

On 12 October, copies of the police report began circulating on social media.

In the police report, the victim writes that she was managing the patient and taking his blood in the ICU ward before he uttered an inappropriate word that shocked her.

It is understood that the man initially received a phone call from a woman believed to be his wife and put the phone on speaker mode during the call. Based on the conversation, the caller asked what he was doing before he answered with obscene words.

His words caused the nurse to panic as she was alone in the room with the man. Furthermore, as soon as the man ended the call, he asked the nurse to see the new size of the urine catheter and asked the nurse to install it.

Frightened by his request and the obscene words used by the elderly man, the nurse refused to do what he asked and told him to put the catheter in himself before leaving and complaining to the hospital authorities who ordered a police report to be lodged immediately.

State Health Director, Datuk Dr Ismail Ali also said his party is aware of the police report made by the nurse. He assured that internal investigations at the departmental level were being conducted comprehensively and that his party would cooperate fully with the authorities for further action.
