Well, it looks like our hopes of finally being able to attend an Ivy League school has gone down the drain. Previously, reports from The Malaysian Reserve and The Sun Daily stated that the prestigious Harvard Business School (HBS) was planning to open their third overseas campus in Kuala Lumpur. Unfortunately, these rumours are not true.

This was not meant to be, as The Malaysian Reserve has removed their old article and published a new one. HBS has replied that they are not planning to set up a campus in Kuala Lumpur, dashing all our hopes and dreams. Guess we’re not worthy yet! 🙁

In an update, HBS denied that they would build a classroom in Malaysia that is similar to the centres in India and China. Looks like there was miscommunication! Currently, their only programme on offer in KL is “HBS Malaysia Competing on Business Analytics and Big Data” programme, carried out with the Center of Applied Data Science (The CADS).

This current programme is targeted at senior executives in Malaysian and Asean companies to help them make better use of big data so that they can make better decisions in their organisations.

HBS chief marketing and communications officer Brian C Kenny said that instead of building a Harvard Centre, they want to make the HBX Credential of Readiness (CORe) programme available to Malaysian and Asean audiences. The planned agreement between the CADS and HBS is to use HBS’ digital platform, HBX for the programme. This will ultimately bring the dynamism of a HBS classroom to online learning.

They hope to have up to 1,000 participants for the pilot programme consisting of fresh university graduates and mid-career professionals.

Guess it just wasn’t meant to be!
