A Malaysian family is currently being praised for looking beyond religion as they came together to participate in their converted family member’s funeral, despite them being of different religions.
Influencer and teacher Mohd Fadli Salleh took to his Facebook page to share how a Chinese family paid their last respects to their loved one, who had converted to Islam, in an Islamic funeral ceremony.

He wrote, “Yesterday, the Funeral Management Room by Dana Kita managed 3 bodies. Among them was the body of a convert. What was heartwarming was that the family members of the deceased, who are non-Muslim, gathered together to pay their last respects. Even though they are of different religions, the family relationship remains intact.”
“For non-Muslim friends, if you have a family member who has converted to Islam, they are still obligated to obey their parents even if their parents are non-Muslim. Only if their parents tell them to do something that violates religious laws, then they are not obliged to obey.”
He also explained that Muslim converts can also interact with their non-Muslim siblings as per usual, by giving hugs and kisses, and that non-Muslims who convert to Islam can also choose to keep their names rather than changing them to Muslim names.
Different faiths, same family

Mohd Fadli Salleh went on to share that, despite being of different religions, family members should never abandon one another, and thanked the Chinese family for setting a good example.
“Do not abandon family members who choose to convert to Islam,”
“The incident that happened yesterday at the Dana Kita funeral home really brings a good message. Thank you for not cutting ties with the deceased despite being of different religions. Thank you for still being present during the funeral,” he added.
