Following Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s recent announcement regarding the cancellation of 2023 New Year Celebration in Dataran Merdeka, Petronas Twin Towers also announced that KLCC will welcome the new year differently this year.

Anwar’s announcement is due to the seriousness of the floods which are happening all across the country, as well as the people’s struggles. “KLCC The Place stands in solidarity with fellow Malaysians who are currently experiencing challenging times with the ongoing natural disasters, the flood, and other difficulties,” stated the Petronas Twin Towers in a Facebook post.

That said, the upcoming new year countdown celebration with performances and fireworks will be cancelled, but the KLCC Park and Lake Symphony Fountains will still be illuminated.

“Come rest and reflect on the milestones of the year, and welcome the start of the new one,” the statement says, adding that it hopes for a brighter and better future for all Malaysians.

How will you celebrate the new year’s countdown? Let us know in the comments.
