Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming has issued a public apology to media practitioners following remarks he made during a recent city lighting event which were alleged to have offended some members of the press.
He stated that, as someone who respects media freedom and freedom of speech, he accepts the criticism directed at him and will take it as a lesson to refocus on nation-building efforts.

āI accept all the criticism with an open heart. If any media friends felt hurt or offended by my words, I retract them and sincerely apologise.”
“I want all of us to continue focusing on rebuilding our beloved nation,ā he told reporters.
“Those who know me know that I deeply respect the media”
He added that throughout his nearly 30-year political career, he has always respected media practitioners for their vital role in disseminating information to the public.
āLet me be clear, those who know me know that I deeply respect the media. So, I hope this issue will not be blown out of proportion and that we can all move on to continue uplifting the nation,ā he said.
Previously, a video clip went viral showing Kor Ming responding in a slightly stern tone to a media representativeās question regarding the use of English in the eventās name.

The incident drew criticism from various parties, including the National Union of Journalists Malaysia (NUJM) and the Centre for Independent Journalism (Geramm).
