In early 2023, Minister of Housing and Local Government, Nga Kor Ming, shared that his ministry was giving out an award for ‘Toilet of the Year’.
Now, it appears that a toilet is getting him into hot water with Malaysians.
Taking to his Twitter page, he praised a ‘public’ toilet at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) for being so clean and atas that it can be considered BMW-level luxury.
He wrote, “Another BMW standard public toilet in line with KPKT policy. This time at KLIA. Cleanliness is part of faith. A clean Malaysia is our responsibility.”
Sure ‘public’ or not?
And while the toilet does look really nice, some Malaysians pointed out that it isn’t as ‘public’ as the Minister stated it to be.
Apparently, the toilet praised by Nga Kor Ming is located at the Plaza Premium in KLIA, making it a toilet that isn’t exactly accessible to the general public.
They then called out the minister for being misleading about the toilet.
“Show the real public toilets at KLIA, not the ones at the Plaza Premium KLIA where the general public can’t afford (to go).”
“This tweet is misleading. This is not KLIA’s ‘public’ toilet. Even if you want to lie, Twitter isn’t the place (to do it), YB. Be honest, just say that it’s the toilet at the Plaza Premium KLIA.”
A quick Google check confirmed that the toilet does, in fact, belong to the Plaza Premium Lounge at Terminal 1 of KLIA.
