We’re less than a month away from the start of the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, France but locally, all the talk has been about the Malaysian Contingent’s official attire rather than the athlete’s preparation for the biggest sports event in the world.
This was after the unveiling of the national contingent’s official attire left a lot to be desired, with many disliking the ‘bland and uninspiring’ design.
OCM unveils the new redesigned Malaysian Contingent’s official attire after backlash
Well, the Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) has since assured that a redesign was in the works and accordingly, the new official attire was announced via a press release today.
In the statement, issued by its President Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Dr. Mohamad Norza Zakaria, OCM showcased the new, “more striking tiger stripe” design for the national contingent.
The redesign was based on feedback from the public which had the consensus that the tiger motif design was not striking enough.
Accordingly, the new attire includes a black background with more distinct and larger yellow tiger stripes on the front and back of the jacket.
Furthermore, there’s also the OCM logo in the colours of the Jalur Gemilang as a mark of respect for the national flag.
OCM hopes that all Malaysians will support the Malaysian Contingent in Paris
Mohamad Norza asserted,
“OCM believes this new design symbolises the tiger spirit that has become the Malaysian contingent’s identity since it was 1st introduced at the Manila SEA Games in 2005.”
“OCM further hopes that the tiger spirit will inspire the country’s athletes to roar in Paris. With this decision, OCM hopes for unwavering support from all Malaysians for all of the Malaysian Contingent at the 2024 Paris Olympics.”
