In the Ministry of Health’s (MOH) latest update on 13 July, it was announced that a new Covid-19 cluster has been detected in Malacca. The cluster was identified when a third individual tested positive for the virus after coming into contact with the second case of this cluster.

In a Facebook post, the MOH said that the first case of the cluster was a Malaysian citizen (Case 8,673) who returned to Malaysia from Russia on 5 July. The individual’s Covid-19 results at the International Arrivals Entrance came out positive and he was later brought to the Sungai Buloh Hospital.

The second case of the cluster (Case 8,718) was a friend of the first case who boarded the same plane and had also arrived in Malaysia on 5 July. This individual’s Covid-19 results came out negative but he began to have a fever and respiratory symptoms on 7 July.

A second screening then revealed that he tested positive for Covid-19. As of 13 July, 14 close contacts of this cluster has been identified but all of them have tested negative for the virus after being screened.

The third case from the cluster is Case 8,724 and is the father to the patient for Case 8,718.

The patient for Case 8,724 together with three other family members in the same car had welcomed the arrival of the second patient of the cluster which has now been identified as the PUI Novgorod cluster.

Meanwhile, investigations and active contact detection are ongoing.
