What best represents a historic route? Is it a historic building, or a scenic natural phenomena? How about something the state is best known for? Any and all of these criteria come into play when coming up with a landmark that represents each state. Taking to Twitter, netizen @tekong shared how back in those days, roads in every state were full of landmarks built by automotive distributor Edaran Otomobil Nasional (EON).

EON? Ring any bells? A quick history lesson seems in order. Established in 1984, EON was established to distribute PROTON cars nationwide. Now it sells a multitude of brands, in various locations, namely Audi, Volkswagen and Mitsubishi.

Now back to the story. In his Tweet, @tekong writes, “If I’m not mistaken, these landmarks were everywhere. It was built in the 1990s to promote cool tourist spots across the country and also to indicate that there was an EON or PROTON outlet in that city.”

“Know any other locations other than the one I have?”

Garnering 359.5k views, netizens commenting on the tweet shared various other locations of this old school memorabilia.

“You will be able to locate these landmarks along old highways and back roads. These EON landmarks can be found nearby airport entrances/exits, international gateways and state/city borders.”

Starting some sort of ‘treasure hunt’, the comments’ section of this Tweet, are full of landmarks many have found near their area.
