At the moment, Netflix has about 200 million users globally. However, the popular streaming service was recently reported testing a feature to block the use of invalid accounts. According to a GammaWire report, a number of users are now beginning to receive warning notices for those who allegedly borrow account login information from the original owners of the account. According to a notice that appeared on a user’s screen, Netflix states,

“If you don’t live with the owner of this account, you need your own account to keep watching.”

Alongside this message, the user will also be asked to verify the account by entering a verification code sent via email or SMS code. If you are not the owner of the account, it may be difficult for you to obtain the verification code.

Netflix Account Sharing

Users also have the option to “Verify Later”. However, when the button is pressed, the pop-up is said to reappear. In the meantime, Netflix said this warning notice was tested to ensure that those who use the Netflix account are given permission by the account owner. Of course, this feature is especially helpful in cases involving the use of invalid accounts. For now, testing for the notice is limited to TV streaming only.
