The recent hype and commotion surrounding former prime minister Najib Razak’s house being raided brought about a pretty hectic life for the man. But now that things have mellowed down a little, he was able to hold several interviews in his personal residence at Jalan Duta.

He told reporters that he is now “easing into retirement” after having lost his job as prime minister and resigning as president of Umno and chairman of Barisan Nasional.

“My daily life? I’m jobless. I’m unemployed,” he said in an interview with Malay Mail on Saturday (May 19).

“I will provide my thoughts on how the country is going, but let me take a break and sort out my personal side first.”

He then added that he needs time to see how things develop as it is still too early. He said he will do whatever he can to contribute to the country because Malaysia would need people who can give their thoughts.

However, Lawyer Syahredzan Johan brought it to Najib’s attention that he still remains salaried as a Member of Parliament for Pekan, Pahang that he is currently visiting.

According to Malay Mail, he criticised Najib for claiming that he is jobless and added that it is insulting to those who are truly unemployed.

“Datuk Seri still gets a salary as the Pekan MP. Please do not liken yourself to those who are truly jobless. That is insulting,” he wrote on Twitter.

Najib’s statement has also caused an uproar among Malaysians who have taken it upon themselves to criticise such claims by Najib on Facebook and Twitter.

According to these comments, it looks like Najib does not count his duty as a Member of Parliament for Pekan as a real job.
