Local university or private university? Are we still having the comparison fight of which university is better in 2020?
It’s time we acknowledge that where you study is not important, rather the quality of the education you pursue is what should be emphasized. This Malaysian posted a confession in UTAR Confessions about how their friend who graduated from Universiti Malaya is earning a salary of RM6,000 while the confessor who studied in a popular private university ONLY earns RM3,000.
The confessor added that besides studying in UM, the friend also graduated with a CGPA of 4.0 and a first-class honours degree. Now, this is where the confessor made a statement that is perhaps…problematic?
“Obviously, UM is a run-down local university and the tuition is not as high as my university. Plus, isn’t my university more popular??”
Does your university really matter after you graduate?
In a response submitted in Quora, employers would want to know what you studied in your university and if you’ve learned the right things to help you in the job.
“On the most part, employers do not care at all about university rankings as they will know a lot more about the school than the people in the rating services,” it read. In this case, it definitely helped that the confessor’s friend graduated with first-class honours which might’ve helped in securing a good job.
Do we really need any more negativity nowadays? If you’re unhappy with how much you’re earning, you either just have to work hard or maybe it’s time to look for a new job! In the meantime, just learn to be happy for your friend who probably worked hard for their success too.
