Since we experience summer all year long here in Malaysia, most of us have probably experienced our makeup melting through our sweat. It can be very frustrating, especially if you’ve put in so much effort into your makeup routine.

Wish you can learn how to make your makeup stay on longer? Good news! We’re here to share some tips and tricks so that your makeup can slay all day! ?

1. Cleanse and prep your skin properly

Having a smooth and clean base can allow your makeup to grip better on your skin. Make sure to properly cleanse your face and moisturise it well before using a primer. A blurring or pore-filling primer would work best because they tend to have a sticky texture that the makeup can cling onto. You can also choose a mattifying primer that is formulated to balance out excess oil and prevent your makeup from slipping and sliding off.

2. Powder > foundation > powder again!

This trick actually originated from a popular TikTok trend! The tip is to apply a light layer of loose powder on your face (can be on your T-zone only or your whole face) to ‘set’ your primer. This will help to control any excess oil that is produced on your skin as you go about your day and it also helps to blur out any texture on your face. After the light layer of powder, you can apply your foundation as per usual and finally, set your face with powder again to make sure the foundation won’t budge!

3. Spot conceal instead of applying a thick layer of foundation

Spot concealing refers to using a concealer or foundation and applying it to specific spots on your face (blemishes, acne scars, etc.) that would need extra coverage. After spot concealing, you can proceed with applying your foundation as per usual. This way, you won’t end up applying such a thick layer of foundation but you would still get the coverage that you need!

4. Use a setting spray after every step

One of the most crucial tips to get your makeup to last longer is to spritz a long-wearing setting spray onto your face after every step in your base makeup routine. In this case, you can spray it after applying primer, after powdering your face, after applying the foundation and finally after you set your foundation with powder. The setting spray will act as a ‘lock’ to further ensure each layer of your makeup won’t budge. Remember! It’s crucial to let the setting spray dry completely on your face before you proceed to the next step.

5. Use waterproof eyeliner and mascara

It’s almost inevitable to be sweating in this hot Malaysian weather. Because of that, it’s recommended to make sure that your eyeliner and mascara are both waterproof. These products will prevent you from getting smudges under the eyes (also known as the ‘panda eyes’ look!). If you also have thick eyebrows, you should set your eyebrows with a brow gel to make sure that they stay looking neat and put together.

6. Finish up the look with smudge-proof lipstick

Lipstick is probably the easiest thing to get smudged, especially if you’re constantly eating and drinking or if you have to wear a face mask. Because of this, we’d recommend choosing smudge-proof lipsticks that can last you throughout the day. However, we also get that some long-wearing lipsticks can be extremely drying and uncomfortable. So if you’re having trouble finding a transfer-proof lipstick that suits you, we’d recommend checking out the M·A·C Locked Kiss Ink range of lipsticks!
