Nurul Izzah’s appointment as PM’s financial advisor has gained much backlash from Malaysians, as many see this as a form of nepotism.
Former Prime Minister, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin also criticised the appointment, which he said has never happened in Malaysian history.
“Anwar’s empty talks”
In his Facebook post last night (January 30), Muhyiddin said that Anwar has given a lot of empty talks where he failed to keep his promises, such as appointing himself as the Minister of Finance when he promised not to do so in the past.
The former PM also slammed Anwar for appointing Zahid Hamidi as one of the deputy PMs when he has an ongoing court case. Muhyiddin said the appointment was merely a token of appreciation for Zahid who forced many Barisan Nasional (BN) politicians to voice out their support for Anwar.
“This is a political transaction that’s based on ‘You scratch my back, I scratch yours.”
Is it too late to fix the damage? Muhyiddin says it’s not, and here’s what Anwar must do.
Resign as the Minister of Finance, and focus solely on his role as the PM.
Muhyiddin added that times are tough and people are not doing well, which explains why Anwar should not be distracted by other roles. To convince him even further, Muhyiddin used the jailed former PM as an example.
“1MDB case started when Najib was also the Minister of Finance. Anwar shouldn’t let history repeats itself.”
What about Zahid and Nurul Izzah?
Muhyiddin said Zahid, the DPM should be on leave until his court case is settled. This is because visiting other countries for formal matters as a DPM who has an ongoing court case is an embarrassment for the country.
“I wonder what the headline from the foreign media will look like.”
As for Anwar’s daughter, Muhyiddin urged her to resign from her newly-appointed role as the financial advisor, which he believes is an appointment “at the wrong place and time”.
“She’s a talented young female leader, but this is not the right place.”
Kerajaan PH-BN pimpinan Dato' Seri Anwar Ibrahim tidak bermula dengan langkah yang betul dari awal lagi. Janji…

Do you agree with Muhyiddin’s take on this appointment? Or do you think it does not matter who’s hired, as long as the person gets the job done?
