Recently, a Global Facebook campaign known as “Global Bersih” was launched so Malaysians could gather and express their concerns and dissatisfaction with the current political situation in the country. But this movement isn’t just for Malaysians within the country. According to their Facebook page, “Global Bersih mobilises overseas Malaysians to protest through a worldwide #respectmyvote campaign!”

#RespectMyVote is a hashtag designated to represent the voice of Malaysians living abroad. It allows Malaysians overseas to write in to their MPs, appealing to the leaders of the country to set aside their political agendas for the sake of the rakyat.

Inspired by the Bersih protest that sees Malaysians taking it to the streets to protest for fair and clean elections, Global Bersih seeks to unite Malaysians worldwide under the unanimous goal of bringing justice to our country. Netizens can even use the #RespectMyVote to upload videos and photos of them holding Global Bersih signs to raise awareness about what the campaign is about.

Amidst the chaos of this uncertain political climate, it’s encouraging to know that Malaysians are still hopeful for a change. What do you guys think of this?
