Listen up, KL clubbers!

It was recently reported that the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) will be reviewing the special permission for Jalan Tun Razak’s TREC to operate until 5am, according to the Malay Mail Online.

This revision comes following recent police advice and will be discussed with Federal Territories minister Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Mansor. Kuala Lumpur mayor Tan Sri Mhd Amin Nordin Abdul Aziz stated today (15th January),

“We received a letter from the IGP asking us to review the operation hours and we will abide by it. Now we are looking to shorten the operation hours following advice by the police.”

The KL mayor then went on to say that he could not confirm if the police letter was linked to the US embassy’s warning for its citizens to avoid visiting the popular city nightspot, The Beach Club, due to cases of foreigners reportedly having their drinks spiked.

Despite not being able to confirm this, Tan Sri Mhd Amin said that DBKL is working closely with the authorities to investigate the matter.

The police reportedly advised that such places should close by 1am, but other authorities are reportedly fine with these establishments closing at 3am.

“Since it was a Cabinet decision to allow the 5am operation hours, now we need to prepare a Cabinet paper to revise it,” the mayor continued.

According to Tan Sri Mhd Amin, entertainment areas like Jalan P. Ramlee, Changkat Bukit Bintang, and Sri Hartamas are allowed to open until 3am while establishments located outside these areas can only remain open until 1am.

On top of that, DBKL has also reportedly stopped giving entertainment permits for outlets planning to operate near residential areas. They are also planning on relocating entertainment outlets located near housing areas.
