Two mechanics were arrested by the Road Transport Department (JPJ) recently at the Bukit Raja Toll Plaza in Klang, Selangor, after they were caught using their customers’ motorcycles for illegal racing.

Both men, one of whom is an Indonesian national, were arrested within 30 minutes of each other, starting at 6:30 PM, despite attempts to evade the authorities.

Two mechanics arrested for ‘rempit’ activities using their customers’ “extremely-modified” motorbikes

Selangor JPJ, in a Facebook post, stated that the motorcycles had undergone extreme modifications costing over RM8,000, including significant changes to their exhaust systems.

Kosmo! quoted Selangor JPJ director Azrin Borhan as saying that both suspects were motorcycle mechanics involved in tuning and modifying customers’ motorcycles.

“They were then believed to have exploited the machines by testing them, allegedly in illegal street races. Both motorcycles were also found to have non-functioning headlights and signal lights, while the tyres and registration numbers did not comply with specifications,” he added.

Suspects claimed they were unaware of the expired road taxes

Further inspections revealed that the road taxes for both motorcycles had expired, and the arrested mechanics claimed they were unaware, as the vehicles belonged to their customers.

Both motorcycles were seized and impounded at the Ijok Enforcement Station for further action. He also shared the extreme methods that some riders resort to just to avoid roadblocks, including breaking through the toll barriers.

Azrin added that Pantai Remis has become a hotspot for motorcyclists from various locations, including Kuala Lumpur, Kuala Selangor, and Shah Alam.

He added that the presence of motorcyclists performing dangerous stunts often causes concern and fear among members of the public passing through the area, where they would see many of the riders performing “Superman” stunts on their rides.

Azrin added that performing dangerous stunts on public roads and carrying out extreme motorcycle modifications is a serious offence.
