A rather peculiar scene took place at the Elmina exit of the Guthrie Corridor Expressway recently, after the road looked more like a wet market than an expressway, with many Malaysians scrambling to get ‘free’ cuttlefish.

This is after a lorry carrying fresh seafood overturned at the exit, spilling all of its content by the side of the expressway.

The incident was recorded by TikTok user @__aimaan who posted the video on the platform, immediately going viral with over 1.4 million views and over 44,600 likes in just under 17 hours.

In the video, almost the whole stretch of the side of the road was filled with cuttlefish near the ditch. Furthermore, the lorry which spilt its fresh seafood cargo can also be seen at the far end of the road.

A lot of people can be seen scrambling to collect as much cuttlefish as they can, bringing with them plastic bags, cooler boxes and other containers to put the fresh seafood.

Furthermore, on the merging road on the other side, countless motorcycles and cars can be seen being parked, presumably belonging to the Malaysians who were collecting the cuttlefish.

Meanwhile, traffic can be seen building up on the road where the lorry overturned, as the left lane was closed for the people to ‘clean up’ the spilt seafood.

The owner of the seafood allegedly allowed people to collect the cuttlefish

In the comments, netizens reacted to the incident, with many Malaysians who were present at the accident location sharing their experience there.

One commenter asked whether it’s Halal for Muslims to eat the cuttlefish as it doesn’t belong to them and they didn’t purchase it from the owner.

However, one commenter who was at the scene revealed that the owner of the seafood cargo allegedly gave permission to passersby to collect the cuttlefish, hence why many came with containers.

Furthermore, a man claiming to be the owner of the overturned seafood cargo was also present in the comments section, though he didn’t say much or answer netizens’ questions.
