The Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) has earned praise online after its enforcement officers issued on-the-spot compounds to those caught littering cigarette butts in public.
Part of an anti-littering operation aptly named “Ops Anti-Litter”, DBKL shared a video of its enforcement officers reprimanding smokers around Kuala Lumpur who irresponsibly threw their cigarette butts on the ground and immediately fining them.

The video has since gone viral, garnering over 2,500 reactions and 476 shares on Facebook, with overwhelmingly positive feedback from Malaysians in the comments section.

In the video, several individuals can be seen smoking in public before littering their cigarette butts on the ground.

They were then approached by DBKL enforcement officers, who reprimanded them and issued compounds for the offence.

In the comments section, many Malaysians praised DBKL for the operation and urged other local authorities to implement similar initiatives in their own jurisdictions.
One commenter praised the operation and called for the city council to take action against those who smoke and litter in public toilets, too.

Meanwhile, another netizen urged DBKL to conduct more operations like this, including those that target smokers at restaurants.
Besides that, one commenter told the city council to prepare more smoking areas, claiming that smokers litter cigarette butts due to the lack of trash bins equipped with ashtrays.
