Tensions are at an all-time high in the Middle East as the October 2023 Gaza-Israel conflict escalated further after Israel declared war on Palestine and Hamas.

Naturally, the Palestine-Israel conflict has taken over social media worldwide, including in Malaysia, which has consistently called for Palestinians to be granted absolute freedom from Israel’s illegal occupation of their homeland. Furthermore, Malaysia also does not recognise Israel as a nation and those with Israeli passports are not allowed to enter the country.

With that context in mind, a local actress recently drew the ire of many Malaysians after she left a comment on the Instagram page of Hollywood and Israeli star Gal Gadot.

The local actress, Raja Ilya recently commented on Gal Gadot’s Instagram post on a recent Hamas attack which caused many casualties, saying to the Hollywood actress to ‘Stay safe’ accompanied by a sad emoji.

In case you’re not familiar, Gal Gadot, most famously known for playing Wonder Woman is a staunch supporter of Israel and has even served as a trainer and combat instructor for the Isreal Defence Forces (IDF).

Hence, many Malaysians found Raja Ilya’s comments on Gal Gadot’s post inappropriate and seemingly portrayed the former as siding with Israel in the ongoing conflict.

Many netizens then flooded Raja Ilya’s comments to criticise her. One Malaysian commenter asked if her comment meant that the local actress was supporting Israel.

Besides that, another Malaysian commenter slams the local actress for ‘forgoing her religion’ after years of staying abroad that she had allegedly forgotten what is right and wrong.
