At the time of writing, Russia & Ukraine are still at war which has prompted refugees in Ukraine to flee the country for their lives.
People all over the world are still wishing and praying for the safety of the people who are trapped in the middle of this crisis. However, a recent tweet by our local celebrity and comedian, Nigel Ng, better known as Uncle Roger has enraged the people due to his insensitivity towards the ongoing crisis.
In a tweet that has since been deleted, Uncle Roger jokingly mentioned adding some Ukraine dates to his upcoming HAIYAA World Tour.
The tweet, which was originally written yesterday (24 February) is being recirculated and spread like wildfire on social media.
On the same night, Uncle Roger tweeted and said “sometimes what’s funny in your head is not funny in real life,” which is a reference to his deleted tweet.
In response to a comment that reminded him to make sure there is no next time, Uncle Roger assured her that there will definitely be a next time!
“If you listen to my podcast, you know I say some crazy shit,” he explained, which is an apparent justification of his joke.
It’s human lives, not some crazy shit
His reaction towards the insensitive joke has sparked even more fury among netizens who say that war and casualties are never a joke. Some have also started to unfollow him on social media.
No apologies, Uncle Roger?
In the meantime, some netizens have also highlighted his lack of apology for his deleted tweet about the war, as well as his intention and hints on further insensitive jokes in the future.
As of now, Uncle Roger has yet to respond further on this matter. Do you think Uncle Roger has gone too far this time with his jokes?
