Recently, the government announced their Bumiputera Economic Transformation Plan 2035 (PuTERA35) to encourage Bumiputeras to play a more significant role in the socio-economic development of the country by increasing their occupation of high-skilled jobs and closing the economic gap.
And while Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim insisted that PuTERA35 will not lead to the marginalisation of non-Bumiputera Malaysians, many believe that his words are cheap.
Why help one group when you can help all who need it?
Some netizens pointed out that such assistance from the government should not be for specific races but instead, for all who require it.
Different governments but the same old song?
Some also pointed out that the Malaysian government, no matter who is in charge, has been talking about and implementing all kinds of initiatives to champion the Bumiputera community for years. And yet, nothing seems to have changed.
They, too, feel that constant spoon-feeding will only lead to their target audience being more and more reliant on government assistance.
What even is PuTERA35?
Many also questioned whether PuTERA35 is just another way for the rich to get richer.
What do you think of the PuTERA35 plan? Do feel free to share your thoughts in the comment section.
