As society advances, digital platforms such as YouTube and TikTok have become the new mediums of entertainment, content creation and advertising.

However, sometimes, it might be best to mindful of the type of content you’re promoting and releasing.

A Malaysian YouTuber recently found himself facing some backlash after he promoted a betting website in his latest video.

In the video named ‘5 minutes before the incident’, popular YouTuber Isa Isarb is trying to set up a badminton tournament involving 200 people.

He starts off the video by revealing that betting website M88 Mansion is the sponsor of the video.

“With M88 you can earn passive income. They’re also the sponsors of the Badminton World Federation (BWF) till 2024. If you want to know more you can click on the link in the video’s description.”

Later on in the video, Isa explained more about M88 Mansion’s collaboration with the BWF.

“You can invest in M88 easily. All you need to do is to select whatever you’re interested in, predict and invest. Whoever wants to earn income at home, you can use this platform,” added Isa as he provided the special link you’d click on to claim a special offer.

“Isn’t he a Muslim?”

Isa has a huge following on YouTube with over 2.48 million subscribers. But, his video garnered plenty of backlash as Malaysians pointed out that he is promoting betting which is haram and hence any money he earned from that is impure.

“After finding out the sponsor of the video, I immediately unsubscribed, sorry Isa but I do not want to have to answer on Judgement day for supporting things like this,” said a user.

“Isa, why would you accept a sponsorship to promote a betting company. Aren’t we Muslims. I pray that we all will be given the strength to avoid such deviancy,” commented another user.

Another netizen commented, “Seriously you’re just taking whatever sponsor… please be more alert in the future. You get a lot of views on your video so you shouldn’t show off negative values.”

Not his first time

The issue was also brought to Twitter where people also condemned him for his actions. Users pointed out that this was not his first time as he has also worked with betting companies in the past and participated in it himself.

“He’s done this in the past. That’s why he earns a lot. He previously made a video where he bought lottery tickets,” said a user.

Another netizen pointed out how he had previously promoted another betting company.

Meanwhile, he has also been under controversy for other incidents. Back in 2020, he was asked to leave after he attempted to hand out 10,000 RM1 notes to the crowds gathered outside Istana Negara.

And just last week, one of his videos showcased an allegedly pregnant woman getting trampled in a crowd rushing to redeem a RM10,000 prize, in a giveaway organised by him.
