With less than 14 days left for Ramadhan, the issues revolving food prices and quality in Ramadhan Bazaars are still being talked about. This time, a Malaysian man claimed that he had visited arguably the MOST EXPENSIVE Ramadhan Bazaar in Johor.

In a viral TikTok post, the man, known as Pok Teh claimed that 1 portion of Roti John at Ramadhan Bazaar in Taman Suria, JB costs a whopping RM40! A burger, on the other hand, costs RM30. Pok Teh, however, did not name the stalls or share any pictures of the expensive food.

However, he also mentioned that visitors are allegedly charged an extra 50 sen for a plastic bag.

“Like it or not, you have to take it or else you can’t carry your food.”

A bazaar that targets Singaporean customers?

Pok Teh also shared his theory as to why the bazaar in Taman Suria allegedly charges expensive prices – it has something to do with its targeted customers.

“They’re targeting Singaporen customers.”

With the Ringgit going lower, it’s not uncommon for Singaporean customers to shop in Malaysia once in a while, especially with JB just at the border. Pok Teh also reminded B40 customers to double-check the prices before buying anything, saying that he was merely sharing what he experienced at the bazaar.

“The food sold at Taman Suria bazaar may not be within your budget.”

“That’s a baseless accusation”

The organiser of the Ramadhan Bazaar was well aware of the circulated video regarding the claims of expensive prices at the place. To him, Pok Teh’s claims were all baseless accusations, based on a statement.

“I’m sure the food there is sold at an affordable price and is catered to everyone, including the local community.”

He also clarified about the actual prices of the food, saying “it was RM6 for a burger and around RM10 to RM15 for Roti John.”

“The vendors sold 4 portions of Roti John for RM40, not just 1 portion,” the organiser clarified.

He added that most vendors at the said bazaar display the prices of their food to ease the customers in their purchase. You can watch the viral TikTok clip below.
