The Kuala Lumpur High Court has ordered a man to pay RM100,000 to the wife of former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, over a defamatory statement alleging that she was involved in practising black magic and shamanism.
According to a report by Harian Metro, Judge Datuk Ahmad Shahrir Mohd Salleh made the decision after allowing Rosmah’s application against 35-year-old Ku Muhammad Hilmie Ku Din, who had failed to file a memorandum of attendance to answer the suit on a set date.

While reading out the decision in the damages assessment proceedings, Shahrir shared that Rosmah had successfully proven her eligibility to receive damages for defamation.
“After considering all matters, the court is of the opinion that a total sum of RM100,000 is a fair and balanced assessment. The total sum of RM100,000 includes general damages and aggravated damages,”
“The claim for exemplary damages is not allowed as there is no strong evidence presented before this court to support the award,” he said.
Where this all began
Rosmah had filed the suit in September 2023, alleging that Ku Muhammad Hilmie had uploaded a video that contained defamatory and untrue statements against her to his TikTok account.

She claimed that the statements implied that she had committed sinful acts, that she was associated with activities involving the devil, a shaman and evil individuals, as well as that she practised polytheism.
She added that statements prejudiced her reputation as the wife of the 6th Prime Minister of Malaysia and a well-known patron of charities.
Due to this, she demanded general damages, aggravated damages and exemplary damages as well as orders deemed appropriate by the court.
