It is said that more than 1 million Uyghur Muslim people are being held (some in blindfolds and shackles) in prison camps in the Xinjiang region of China, where the Chinese government are allegedly torturing them as ‘character correction’ methods. Apparently, Uyghur women are also systemically raped.

What makes this all so much worse is the fact that this isn’t new nor is it a secret, yet nothing has changed.

Recently, Global Peace Mission (GPM) Malaysia shared how they, alongside the Malaysian Islamic Youth Movement (ABIM), had surrendered a memorandum to the Chinese Embassy to stop the cruelty against the Uyghur people in China.

Taking to their Facebook page, they wrote, “Today (July 5, Wednesday), marks the 14th anniversary of the Urumqi Massacre and genocide against the Uyghur Muslim ethnic group that took place in the capital of East Turkistan (Xinjiang).”

“This dark event is one of a series of atrocities, persecution, cruelty and inhumane actions carried out by the Chinese government against the Uyghur people over the past few decades.”

They are hoping that their memorandum helps add to the pressure to stop these cruel acts.

“In conjunction with this event, a memorandum was handed over at the Chinese Embassy led by the Secretary General of the Malaysian Islamic Youth Movement (ABIM), Mohammad Fazril bin Mohd Saleh, accompanied by the Deputy President of ABIM, Khairul Anuar Ismail and the Chief Executive Officer of Global Peace Malaysia (GPM) himself, Ahmad Fahmi Samsudin.”

“This memorandum urges the Chinese government to respect, protect the right to religious freedom and provide equal protection to the Uyghur ethnic group who are facing oppression and brutality in the Xinjiang region,” they added.

Considering how long the torture of the Uyghur people have been going on for, we genuinely hope that this is the year we finally see it all come to an end.
