Boarding school offers students an experience unlike any other. However, the reality within these institutions is not always filled with rainbows and sunshine.
In a recent Twitter post, @rulduff bared the painful memories of a horrifying experience he endured during his time in boarding school.
His tweet reads,
“Ever been molested by a senior in the dormitory? And in return, you won’t get bullied by anyone else. Or even getting hugged and harassed in the middle of the night while you’re asleep? I’ve experienced it all.”
He was questioned by other people about why he didn’t fight back, he explained that, at the age of 13 and being petite, he felt defenseless against a 16 or 17-year-old perpetrator.
“Try to put yourself in my shoes, someone who’s never had an older brother, being the only son and being spoiled as the only son; suddenly, this happens. I didn’t know how to react because no one ever told me it was wrong. All I know is that I had to pretend as if I was asleep the entire time.”
Reflecting on the potential trauma inflicted, he admitted,
“I don’t know if it’s trauma or what, but the terrible incident really scarred me. No one told me that it was wrong. As a kid, I only knew that it felt satisfying, but somehow it affected me mentally due to a lack of sleep. Try to understand that I was still a kid at the time.”
He further shared that he was naive and uninformed during an era where the internet was non-existent, relying on public phones for communication.
The tweet prompted an outpouring of concern and support from netizens, expressing their concerns in the comment section.
“No one should have to go through something like this. I hope you’re doing okay. Sending much love for you.”
“I’ve experienced this when I was 13 years old too, to the extent where I ran away from school. The impact it had on my mental health stayed with me up till today even though I have a family of my own.”
“Thank you for sharing your experience, I know it’s not something easy to do. Hope everyone that reads this will finally know and understand the importance of learning sex education before hitting puberty.”
