Well, this is certainly a very big overreaction over a simple rejection for a drinking session! What was supposed to be a gathering of friends hanging out suddenly turned deadly when one friend went berserk after another one said he didn’t want to join the session.
According to The Star, a construction worker known as Jack Reong from Kampung Lusut in Taman Tunku, Miri was charged yesterday (September 3) for allegedly murdering his friend on May 29, 2015. The 39-year-old suspect had flown into a rage after his friend and neighbour, Mingu Nanggai, 45, didn’t want to participate in a drinking session with him.
Following that, Jack had allegedly punched, kicked and hit Mingu with a wooden object which left Mingu with heavy injuries. Whoa, no chill! The beating was so bad that Mingu died from his injuries but he was only found the next day by his wife, who said that he was bleeding from his mouth and nose.
Borneo Post reported that Jack had been on the run since 2015 but was only recently caught on August 19. He was also wanted for injuring a 46-year-old man, Atong Kanang by slashing him on the wrist with a samurai sword at 8.30pm on Oct 20, 2016. It is unclear what was the reason for the slashing but the court sentenced him to jail for 10 years and to be caned five times.
Mingu’s case is now being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder and he has not entered any plea. Magistrate Zuraini Ali Musa fixed Oct 10 for further mention and Jack is currently awaiting his next court date in prison as murder is a non-bailable offence.
Hopefully, justice will be served to Jack and please, don’t overreact if you get rejected by a friend!
