The late Amirul Hafiz Omar tragically lost his life on Sunday (29 March) after being struck by a drunk driver in Klang.
Following his passing, a close friend of over a decade spoke out, recalling Amirul as a man whose presence was defined by a constant, radiant smile.

A dedicated provider for his family
Amirul was a man who lived entirely for his family, balancing two demanding roles to keep his household afloat. By day, he laboured in the heat of a warehouse; by night, he took to the streets as a part-time Lalamove rider. He was a provider in the purest sense; a pillar for a young family now left in the shadows of an avoidable tragedy.
His friend of 11 years, Illyasa Saipuzzaman, remembers Amirul as the first person to step forward whenever a helping hand was needed. “He was incredibly hardworking,” Illyasa told Berita Harian.
“His teamwork was unmatched. He was fast, committed, and always the first to show up. He never complained, despite carrying the immense responsibility of being the head of his family.”
A final Saturday afternoon
Just 24 hours before the incident, the two friends had spent a quiet Saturday afternoon at a neighbourhood playground. It was an ordinary day filled with casual conversation and shared laughter, with no premonition of the heartbreak to follow.
“I only saw him on Saturday. By Sunday, he was gone forever,” Illyasa said. “There were no signs, no changes. Everything felt so normal.”

A family left behind
Amirul leaves behind a wife and three young children who must now navigate a world without their father’s guidance. His eldest is only nine, his middle child is seven, and the youngest is a mere two years old.
The tragedy unfolded at 11:40 AM on Jalan Raya Barat. According to Klang Selatan District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Lim Jit Huey, the investigation paints a chilling picture of negligence.
A Honda City, driven by a man in his 20s, was reportedly travelling at high speed and weaving dangerously through traffic. In a reckless attempt to overtake other vehicles, the driver veered into the opposite lane, colliding head-on with Amirul’s motorcycle.
The impact was so severe that Amirul was thrown onto the car; he was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver is currently in police custody for a four-day remand period.
PAS Youth, in its statement today (30 March), said that it is ready to provide legal services to the family members of the victim.
