A man was sentenced to prison for stealing essentials from a supermarket

The accused, Muhamad Azrul Haqim Azman, was alleged to have stolen items from a storage area inside a supermarket at around 9:30 PM, according to Sinar Harian.

The stolen items included one Carrie Junior Hair and Body Wash, two Selsun 2-in-1 Shampoos, one Lifebuoy Body Wash, and a Byford singlet.

The accused’s lawyer stated his client, who is married with two young children aged four years and three months, was facing financial difficulties.

He has no prior criminal record

The court was also told that the accused suffers from high blood pressure, has no prior criminal record, and that this was his first offence.

He was charged under Section 380 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum prison term of 10 years and may include a fine. Repeat offences can lead to harsher penalties, including caning.

The court ruled that his prison sentence would commence from the date of his arrest on 2 January.
