For most Malaysians, the passport renewal process in Malaysian immigration offices are known to be very unpredictable as the immigration officers are usually very particular about one’s appearance when taking the passport photo- simple makeup, no fancy headgear or glasses, hair pulled back to show the ears and more.
For example, some people may be asked to tie up their hair more neatly, remove their caps or glasses. But to have someone snip off their eyelash extensions because they are too long seems a bit too much, no?!
Recently, this was what Malaysian-French influencer, Maddy Breteche-Lo had to do when she went to get her Malaysian passport renewed.
Eyelash extensions were too long
“This is my makeup“, Maddy, who resides in Singapore, said in her latest TikTok detailing her experience while showing off her super simple makeup.
She explained that she is aware that the officers are “quite weird about putting makeup on”, but could not believe that they would go to the extent of asking her to just “butcher” her eyelash extensions like that.
“They took one look at my face and they’re like ‘Your eyelash extensions are too long’,” she said exasperatedly.
Then, they gave her a choice of either cutting off her lashes with a scissors or to go back another day, the latter of which she chose as she had to fly off the next day.
“They’re like, ‘You cut yourself lah’, then I’m like ‘Then I cut lah’,” she recounted.
After snipping off her eyelash extensions, Maddy can be heard asking the immigration officers if they’re fine now.
“Cannot cut anymore“, she pleads, in response to the officer who presumably asked her to cut a bit more.
No coloured lenses
If that’s not bad enough, Maddy was also asked to remove her contact lenses after the officers saw that she was wearing them.
However, she told them that she will not as her myopia is 1200 degrees. “Then I have to stick my finger in my eye to prove that it’s not a colour contact“, she adds about her ordeal.
Regardless of everything, Maddy eventually managed to renew her passport in 30 minutes.
“This is unheard of, okay, for Malaysia,” she said in surprise.
