We all know that Wuhan, China is where the Covid-19 virus originated from, first appearing in late December. China was, of course, the first country where the virus spread like crazy – to the point that 81,000 Chinese citizens were infected.

In a Facebook post, a Malaysian who was living in Chongqing, China at that time described what it was like to live in a 40-day lockdown and how she managed to not contract the virus. (Hint: She was very careful.)

Without further ado, let’s get down to business.

Erycaz Lim started off by clarifying that although the Chinese government had stated that only Hubei and Wuhan were on lockdown, it was only the semi-truth. In reality, the whole of China was on lockdown.

In Chongqing, which is 800+km away from Wuhan, Erycaz was not allowed to leave her residential compound. Only 1 person from each household is allowed to leave the household compound every 2-3 days to get essential stuff (food, medicine, etc.). And every single time you enter a building, your temperature will be checked. There was also an absolute “no loitering around aimlessly” rule, if you ever get caught by a patrolling officer then you would be STRONGLY advised to go back home.

She also says that by the people not working and/or going to school, it really minimises the chances of the virus spreading and in truth, it might be the only way to break the chain.

When she went out to get her essential groceries (for 1-2 weeks), she followed these precautionary steps.

  • Have her face mask on (this is mandatory and a person without any mask on will be arrested)
  • Have her hand sanitiser and a small bottle of 75% alcohol with her
  • Once she leaves her house, she’ll make sure to sanitise her hands before she gets in the car and starts touching everything else. *So if you need to take public transport and need to hold the handles/poles, just make sure you sanitise your hands as soon as you leave the bus/ train.*

75% alcohol on the left and hand sanitiser on the right.

  • She makes sure to not touch her face, especially around the eyes, nose and mouth area when she’s outside. If she really needs to rub her eyes, she will sanitise her hands and use the inner part of her shirt to rub the itching area.
  • When she gets home, she’ll wash her hands with soap and water, take off mask, bin it or hang it somewhere to air for reuse and wash her hands again!
  • Then she’ll change her clothes and toss it directly into the washing machine and wash it with 60℃ water. After that, she’ll shower immediately.
  • Then the disinfection of everything happens (groceries, car keys, door handle & lock and handphone).

Erycaz told WORLD OF BUZZ that she hopes that all Malaysians will take these steps that she has laid out seriously to prevent the spread of the virus. The prevention is not the responsibility of one person but it is the responsibility of everyone and anyone.

She, similarly to all Malaysians, hope that this outbreak will be gone soon as she wishes to head home to her Malaysia so that she’ll be able to visit her family and friends whom she misses very dearly.

So here you have it guys, remember to disinfect, sanitise and wash anything that your hand touches. Never touch anything with dirty hands and stay away from crowds! Also, wear a mask.
