A netizen recently took to Facebook to share a heartwarming incident that happened to a friend of his after they received an unexpected blessing from a Grab driver in Batu Pahat, Johor on 13th February. The netizen’s friend, who goes by the name of Syukri Haziq said: “I came back from the hospital with my father using a Grab car and he gave us a free ride even though I insisted on paying him.”
She went on to share how the driver extended his act of kindness to Syukri after discovering the crushing news that her friend’s father was diagnosed with colorectal cancer. Once they reached their destination, Syukri was shocked when the driver rejected their payment. Even though the Grab fare was RM22, the kind driver refused to accept a single cent from Syukri and his father. Feeling overwhelmed by his generosity, Syukri felt like it was only fair for him to return the favour by making this Grab driver go viral.
“This is all I can do to repay him.” The netizen went on to say that the small act of kindness by the driver now known as Tan Hwee Sing showed him the true unity that exists among Malaysians. Even though the Grab driver was Chinese and his passengers were Malay, their racial differences didn’t stop the driver from trying his best to help a devastated family.
He ended the post by saying, “Whoever books a Grab and gets this driver, please give him 5 stars because he gave my dad and I a free trip today.”
The post has since garnered a lot of attention from netizens online, who agreed that the various ethnic groups have always loved and respected each other despite how politicians have tried to provoke racial issues to split the unity amongst Malaysians.
“Malaysia is a multi-ethnic country. The people have always distinguished themselves. All this time, it’s the politicians that have divided us.”
When it comes to kindness, it’s the small acts that really go a long way. Let’s all strive to spread kindness like Mr.Tan today!
