E-cigarettes have enjoyed another boost in popularity with the introduction of pods — marketed as a sleek, discreet vape device mooted to help adult smokers kick the habit.
However, smokers aren’t the only demographic that uses these devices now that the industry is increasingly targeting non-smoking adults and youth as well.
While there is no substantial research linking the impact of pod smoking to general health just yet, Oh My Media shared a tweet of one pod smoker who faced severe difficulty in breathing which made her rush to the ER.
In his tweet, the netizen writes, “Since it was so much fun vaping on your pod, now you also get to ‘vape’ on something else.”
The original tweet (which is no longer available) referred to the person’s friend who suffered an asthma attack from vaping too much.
Tsk tsk.
If you know you have asthma, vaping may not be the best thing for you, don’t you think?
After receiving criticism from others, she responded that she had severe asthma since she was a child and vaping had nothing to do with her hospital visit.
Several netizens replied on their views of the dangers of pod vaping and how Malaysian youth are susceptible to the habit. A recent study done at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center highlights that vapers are, in fact, getting younger.
Founder of #MedTweetMY Dr Khairul Hafidz tweeted, “The situation is dire. We do not want youth to be influenced and begin vaping.”

He shows that vape pods are actually way more harmful than regular vape mods as they contained “Concentrated levels of Nicotine Salt” and is smaller, making it easier and more convenient to conceal and use.
