It’s no secret that modelling is a widespread career now, with many young girls hoping to create a better livelihood for themselves by joining the fashion, makeup and entertainment industry as models.
But, unfortunately, many of these girls are then taken advantage of by industry players who insist that these girls be willing to do anything for their spot in the limelight.
Make-up artist, Kimberley Anne, took to her Facebook profile to showcase a talent scout openly requesting for girls to have sex with a casting agent in order to be selected for a modelling project that allegedly pays RM50,000.
She wrote, “There was a job posting, which I applied for as the pay is good, but this is how the conversation went with this particular scout.”
The talent scout had initially posted an advert looking for ladies to model sarees.
When they then directly messaged each other, the scout explained the basics of the project from what she would be wearing, the location and duration of the shoots, the payment, and where and what the images would be used for.
After informing Kimberley that the images from the shoot will be used for the American market only and asked her if she was fine with the terms, to which Kimberley agreed to, the scout then revealed the dirtier side of the ‘conditions’.
They explained that anyone interested in being part of the project must go through a casting process first, where they would need to have sex with the agent at least once.
“Casting involves one-time-sex with the casting person. Private and confidential. Any questions, feel free to ask,”
“The sex is only with the casting person. Private and confidential. Only for selection,” the scout told Kimberley, who then asked why sex was necessary to be chosen as a model.
In response, the scout said, “The sex is to get selected, (it is) not in the photo shoot.”
Kimberley, who was previous a talent scout herself, didn’t hold back her disgust as she told off the talent scout for being unprofessional and for setting such indecent terms for potential models.
“Over the years, many talent agencies and scouts practice this, hence I resigned and chose a different industry when I was told to do an assignment that included such an act. I will not mention the agency’s name but yes, this is real,” Kimberley shared.
She went on to urge other girls to stay safe when navigating through casting calls for modelling projects.
“I know some offers are too good to turn away but always protect yourself. These offers are the reality to many jobs especially in this particular industry. Sex to get selected, but please don’t. We have seen many cases over the years, and it’s sad to be honest,”
As much as it’s a good offer, never ever give up your body to be selected though the world is as such,” she added.
It is truly saddening to know that girls have to go to such lengths to be selected and appear in modelling projects. It just doesn’t feel right, does it?
