Yesterday afternoon, tragedy struck a family that was on the way back from Kelantan to Bentong, Selangor after visiting relatives for Raya.

4 people in the car, father, mother and 2 girls fainted from lack of oxygen after the car’s air conditioning malfunctioned while on their way back home. The father who was driving the car was the last one to faint, causing him to collide the car into the barriers of the Bentong toll.

Not long after, members of the public alongside police personnel conducting Op Selamat patrols and toll booth staff discovered the victims. Fortunately no serious injuries were sustained.

According to Bentong police, first aid was administered to all 4 of them who were unconscious before the medical team began treating them.

Mr Syafiq, the eldest son told WORLD OF BUZZ that he was in a separate car with his wife and 2 other siblings when the incident occurred.

“We were driving close to each other but got separated when there was heavy traffic near the Bentong toll”.

“After that I continued on driving and asked my younger sibling to call my father but no one answered. I drove slowly till I reached the Gombak R&R and that was when my dad suddenly called to say that they all had fainted and were brought to Bentong Hospital so we turned back and rushed there” he recalled.

The father smelled a gas like odor & wound down the windows

According to Mr Syafiq, during the incident, both siblings fell asleep while his mom was complaining of it being hot in the car. His father had then smelled a gas like odor so he wound down the windows.

“My father said after the strange smell, his eyes started to get heavy and was losing consciousness. He asked my mother to drive after passing the toll but mom was quiet and that’s when dad fainted.”

“Next thing you know, my dad is waking up to someone compressing his chest but he was still not fully aware of what had happened” explained Mr Syafiq.

Mr Syafiq said that it would have been hard for his family to be saved had his father not opened the car windows. Mr Syafiq’s father felt better once he reached the hospital and that’s when he updated his son of the incident.

“I’m grateful that dad always puts the car’s gear in neutral during traffic jam as the collision would’ve been worse if he didn’t.”

When asked by WORLD OF BUZZ if his family felt any odd physical sensations before fainting, he said that his younger sister was extremely nauseas but didn’t vomit so she shut her eyes and then slowly lost consciousness.

“My advice is to always pray for everyone’s safety on the road. To passengers, if you feel uncomfortable, dizzy or unwell, let the driver know. Don’t be silent so that the driver knows what is going on. Drive carefully and may everything be in God’s protection” says Mr Syafiq.
Mr Syafiq also told us that the car’s air conditioning is currently being checked and will be serviced today (25th April).
We are grateful that no one was seriously harmed during the incident and that the family is now well.
