In a statement, the Batu Pahat District Police said that the initial investigation identified the incident as having taken place at 12.15am on 20 February at Jalan Desa Botani 1, Taman Desa Botani in Batu Pahat, Johor.

At 1.15pm yesterday, Batu Pahat District Police JSPT arrested the driver, a local man in his 20s. The statement further asserted that a urine test on the driver turned out negative.

The Batu Pahat District Police added that the case is being investigated under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for dangerous and reckless driving.

Should he be convicted under this provision, the man may face up to 5 years in jail and a fine between RM5,000 to RM15,000.
