Purchasing a car can be an exhilarating experience, and the temptation to dive into owning your dream car is real. However, for first-time car buyers, the process may feel confusing and overwhelming.
In a recent viral tweet by user @keywai_, a story unfolds about a car salesperson’s questionable actions. The tweet exposes how the salesperson sold a car to an individual who clearly couldn’t afford it.
According to the tweet, the buyer’s monthly salary was RM2,000, while the car required monthly payments of RM1,070 for a staggering 9 years.
The caption in the posted pictures reads,
“My customer’s loan just got approved, and his salary is only 2.5k.”
Netizens strongly disagreed with the salesperson’s actions, expressing their disapproval. The backlash against the salesperson gained momentum. However, the salesperson even took the time to respond to one of the comments.
The salesperson justified by emphasizing that it’s not solely about affordability but also eligibility. It was stated that if the customer believes they can afford the car, it’s ultimately their decision to make.
“Maybe he or she has other income, you’ll never know,” the salesperson added.
The post has attracted significant attention from netizens, resulting in a flood of comments expressing various opinions on the matter.
“The customer shouldn’t be that naive. Don’t believe everything the salesperson tells you. Only you know whether you can afford it or not. Cut your coat according to your cloth.”
“The salesperson shows no empathy, simply ensuring that their own stomach is full while others have to suffer. The suffering of the other person is another issue; if you live like that, be sure to cut your coat according to your cloth.”
“If the customer’s salary is 4k, it doesn’t guarantee the ability to afford the X50. The customer may only be able to upgrade from Saga to Persona with a 7-year loan.”
