The rise of e-commerce and the ability for all of us to purchase and order items from elsewhere to be delivered straight to our doorstep has proven to become a necessity for many of us.
Apart from just being able to order items to be delivered to our doorstep, there are also multiple methods for us to pay for our orders such as bank transfers, e-wallets, buy now pay later as well as cash on delivery or (COD).
COD has proven to be a favoured method of payment for many of us who might prefer to pay for the items when it actually reaches us. However, this method could be argued to be causing inconvenience to our deliverymen.
Recently, a delivery man shared his frustrations over a customer who had ordered their items to be paid via COD, but simply refused to answer the door when the man was outside.
In a post which was originally shared on Facebook, the man wrote, “If you want privacy then don’t order through COD. Pity the driver who has to come all the way and knock the door only to be ignored despite hearing the voice of a child and their mother behind the door.”
“Tried calling, messaging and WhatsApping but still no response.”
On the door of the house, the customer had sellotaped a notice which reads, “Please greet and knock the door. But if no one answers the door after 3 knocks, please don’t knock again. Thanks for respecting our privacy.”
Bad behaviour
The post has since gone viral after it was reposted and shared on Twitter. Netizens took to the comments section to condemn the customer for being so disrespectful for ignoring the deliveryman.
“Just keep knocking until the door breaks down. If they make noise just throw the parcel at their face.”
Another user commented, “Don’t knock anymore after this, just keep smashing the door so they get scared. If you don’t have money, don’t order. You are causing trouble to others.”
Meanwhile, other deliverers shared their similar experiences of dealing with such troublesome customers.
“When I used to work for J&T, I faced a door which put a similar notice. I knocked and shouted their name and said that I was delivering a package, then only did they open the door.”
“This is what I go through everyday. Very frustrating. You don’t have money but you want to order items,” said a deliveryman.
Another commented, “If I get this kind of customer, I’d just leave it. and take a picture. If it is COD, I would call and if they don’t respond, I’d just get them to pick it up themselves at the hub.”
