Whenever we go for our holidays, we always wish we could extend our trip for another day or two. However, Abdul Wahab Yahaya, 56, and his wife, Junaidah Muhammad Said, 45, did not get that choice as they were not allowed to come back home.
The couple was riding along the streets of Krabi, Thailand when they accidentally hit a local pedestrian with their motorcycle. Unfortunately, the victim passed away in the hospital and as a result, the couple was arrested and are not allowed to leave the country as trial awaits them on January 9 this year.
According to Harian Metro, Abdul Wahab broke his jaw, cheekbone, nose and had internal bleeding in his eyes while his wife suffered from shock waves to her brain due to the collision.
To make matters worse, they were asked to pay a sum of RM200,000 as compensation to the family of the deceased victim. Abdul Wahab is not allowed to leave Thailand until the claim has been settled while his wife was allowed to return home on Dec 30.
“My father is not allowed to come back home because he was the one riding the motorcycle. He has to attend the court trial and is held responsible over the claim made by the deceased’s family. My family and I are considering selling my father’s house in Rawang to settle the claim. I plead to any citizens of Malaysia if they could generously help us financially,” said their 21-year-old son, Amirun Aziz Abd Wahab.
Upon hearing this news, many citizens of Malaysia took action by sharing the story online, asking for help from anyone willing to provide financial funds.
However, a local Thai resident offered up the most generous support so far as he was even willing to put up the title deed on his house as bail for Abdul Wahab. In the post that was shared on a Facebook travel page, the netizen said that the Thai man had only known Abdul Wahab for less than two hours but he was willing to do so much for him. The post also encouraged Malaysians who are going to Krabi to support the kind Thai man as he has a restaurant in Aonang. Kudos to him!
Other netizens are also sharing more information about the case on social media urging other Malaysians to help out if they can.
