Content creator Thaqib Shaker recently took to his Instagram page to showcase how a Tahfiz school, a Chinese temple, and a non-Muslim burial site can exist in harmony in Penang.

“This is a Buddhist temple, down there is a non-Muslim grave site and at the side here is an Islamic Madrasah Tahfiz centre. Penang really is something else,” he said.

Thaqib then approached an Ustaz of the Tahfiz school to get more information on how the different religious spots were coexisting together, and the Ustaz only had good things to say!

“Alhamdullilah, this Tahfiz school has been operating since 2010. And while operations have been running, we have a good relationship with the people in this area. We have a good sense of unity. Even when they have celebrations and more, they will come and inform us beforehand,”

“Normally, we will just allow it, because we live in Penang where we have a good state of unity,” the Ustaz said.

Thaqib then asked the Ustaz if there had ever been situations where those from the Buddhist temple had disturbed the Tahfiz school.

“Alhamdullilah, for the time being, since this Tahfiz school has been operating, we have had a good relationship,” the Ustaz doubled down.

Thaqib ultimately chalked up the racial conflict we tend to see and feel to small groups of individuals and political agendas.
